I had the privilege to attend Cutera’s Laser University in Sydney last week. Now I am a laser lover, but this conference had me all hot and bothered again about what results can be achieved. So, I thought I would share some of the great stuff here. Pigment
Do you have bits of brown pigment on your chest or face? They can be treated. If there are little red veins (called telengectasia or capillaries) mixed in with it, you can have laser treatments for red/brown dyschromia. You are probably looking at 2-3 treatments depending on severity. It is a little uncomfortable- just a bit of a snapping feeling on your skin. A treatment is about 15-20 minutes. BUT beware of a couple of things-
!. I will have your skin checked first by one of our skin cancer docs (Nigel or Saidee) just to make sure everything is ok to treat
2. Skin colour- depends on your colour of skin how we set the laser- generally the less your skin has had recent sun exposure the safer the treatment.
3.Be aware that brown spots can be much darker for a few weeks before they lighten or disappear. So there needs to be 4-6 weeks between treatments to get the best result.
As with ALL anti-aging treatments, remember that the aim is improvement not perfection.
Veins
Leg veins, facial veins, cherry angiomas (red dots), venous lakes (purple spots on lips) can all be treated with laser. Some leg veins are too large and require either injecting (called sclerotherapy- Nigel does that at Revive) or even stripping- which is a surgical procedure. But superficial spider veins- those unsightly webs can get good clearance with laser. You do not have to wear stockings (you can, of course, if you prefer), treatment is relatively fast- half an hour per treatment depending on the size and number of veins. Treatments are 4-6 weeks apart.
